Into The Forrst: On Reputation. →
forrst:
There has been some chatter around Forrst and IRC lately about reputation, so we thought we’d take a moment to write up exactly what reputation “is.”
The reputation system is in place to ensure the Forrst is filled with quality content. Just about every action that you do on Forrst in someway…

Interstate: The fuel of Interstate →
interstateapp:
Interstate has been in full-on development for just around 2 months now (and in private BETA for just over 1 month) and in that small amount of time we’ve had to make some pretty quick yet equally important choices when it comes to our site’s technical setup.
We’ve had to decide things from…

What just happened?
I have been debating how to write this blog post since about 3pm yesterday. But I wanted all the personal attacks to stop and the community to calm down, so I could get a good read on what’s actually happening to the CodeIgniter “community,” and not just give a knee jerk reaction.
About 15 hours ago, Phil wrote a blog post, addressing the issues that we, the CodeIgniter...

I will do my best here to be fair and objective… Since the opening of Edwards Apple Orchard (1964) Edwards has been THE place to go in this area. I’m 47 now and can remember visiting Edwards as a child annually with my family and like so many others posting here have had good experiences and memories and also have continued the tradition by bringing my own children...

MacBook Pro SSD
Today I ordered a 48gb SSD for newegg for my MacBook Pro. I’ll keep this posted updated with progress.

Rockford Workspaces - Katie's Cup
This is part two is a long series of Rockford workspace reviews. You can check here for more reviews.
Type - Coffee House
Coffee - $1.39/sm, $1.69/lg, $2.50/bottomless. Katie’s Cup has several different blends at all times. I’ve sampled 3 or 4 of these blends over time, and found them all to be fantastic (@shawnmk of wallblank fame recommends the Ethiopian Harrar). The huge plus of...
To all the people..
That are defending Adobe and Flash, I think you need to take a look at this (clicking that link will crash your browser). I’m gonna go ahead and agree with Jobs on this one.
This particular exploit is 16 months old, and Adobe has gone as far as to acknowledge it. Maybe they should fix it too?

Shortwave
Shortwave by Shaun Inman is one of the most powerful bookmarklets that I use. Clicking on Shortwave in your bookmark bar simply opens a JavaScript dialog box that asks for a command. For example entering:
g Shortwave
will load the current page with the Google search results for ‘shortwave.’ And entering the command:
ip
Will return your current IP address, but the most...

Bulletproof MySQL Backup
If you run a website with any amount of mission critical data, you need to be backing up your data, including your databases. Carsonified has an amazing article on this.

Readability
Readability is one of the greatest bookmarklets I have ever came across.
Readability is a simple tool that makes reading on the Web more enjoyable by removing the clutter around what you’re reading.
So basically, you drag this little piece of JavaScript to your bookmarks bar, and when ever you come across a page with lots of text, you bang on that little button. Readability tries to...

Oak Leaf Sauvignon Blanc
Oak Leaf Sauvignon Blanc (Walmart $2.69, next to the Merlot) is the second (and hopefully final) wine in the Oak Leaf collection that we are going to be sampling. I’ve been keeping this mouthwatering white chilled in our refrigerator next to the milk rather than in the wine fridge because it really doesn’t deserve a spot in the wine fridge, even though it’s empty.
Strangely,...

MacBook Pro/Snow Leopard/Battery Fail
On August 28, 2009 I installed Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro (15” Unibody) and something horrible happened. My battery life dropped from somewhere around 4-5 hours to somewhere like 2-2.5 hours. It was annoying, but I’m never more than a few feet from an outlet, so it didn’t really matter.
Well, the other night I finally got annoyed to look into this a little bit, and the...

Postmark
Yesterday I stumbled across Postmark. Postmark is a service that allows you to send ‘transaction emails.’ Transactional emails are simply emails that are user specific such as a password reset email, welcome to our site email, or maybe comments to a forum.
My first thought was, “why?” I already send emails out using CodeIgniter’s Email library and things work just...

Southish of the Border
Modelo Especial — Mexican beers are usually off my radar, mostly because they are usually either too skunky to drink without 3 lime slices, or they are too bland to drink without 3 lime slices. But every now and again, I go south with my beer selection.
Modelo Especial is no exception to the mexican-beer-rule (like the shawn kelly rule). It’s very drinkable, but extremely bland. A...

The King of Beers
I don’t know when the last time anyone gave an honest review of Budweiser was, but I’m going to do that today. I picked up a 40oz bottle of Budweiser from the local liquor store last night, and have been thoroughly impressed.
Budweiser is an lager, or more specifically, an American-Lager. Lagers are generally light in color, very easy to drink, and generally have a simple...

Oak Leaf Merlot
Tonight’s wine selection was a fantastic bottle of Oak Leaf Merlot (Walmart - $2.69). The nose is mostly black-pepper, with a little bit of tennis ball. It’s extremely dry and burns my tongue a little bit. Lots of grape, lots of cherry. I feel like this way does little more than getting the job done.
At least some people think it’s slightly better than fermented Welch’s....

Atmosphere - Warm & Cozy but bathroom is...

Twittar
Twitter’s tag line is simple. It’s three words, and it completely defines the entire purpose of Twitter Social Media. For those who don’t know, Twitter’s tag line is “Join the Conversation.” The platform will fail if you don’t join a conversation. Let’s start with one of my pet peeves (aside from people who back into parking spaces): not replying to an @reply. I’m not talking about Mentions: “I’m...
