Postmark

Jan 27, 2010

Yesterday I stumbled across Postmark. Postmark is a service that allows you to send ‘transaction emails.’ Transactional emails are simply emails that are user specific such as a password reset email, welcome to our site email, or maybe comments to a forum.

My first thought was, “why?” I already send emails out using CodeIgniter’s Email library and things work just fine, but I signed up for an account anyway.

Right away I saw the value. Setting up an email server is easy, setting one up properly is much harder. Postmark allows me to monitor outgoing emails, bounces, and delivery errors easily.

There were a few libraries already available when I joined, and even a CodeIgniter library was available, but I felt it could be done better. I forked the library on GitHub and my changes have been merged into the master.

So this is really the first piece of software that I wrote that is going to be used by the general public. Awesome Happy Zack.
